McFarland Living History Ranch is a popular destination for California students from the Central Valley and beyond. At McFarland Ranch, students participate in the Galt Area Historical Society's Pioneer Days program, operated in conjunction with the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District (GJUESD).  Students teleport back in time to the late 1800's to experience life in those times as a learning tool.  And, judging by the smiles and laughter the things that students learn at the Ranch is fun and something they will remember for a lifetime. In the 1800's life was not flipping a switch, watching television or having a room full of toys to play with.  Life was much different and likely more difficult.

Students learn that to be able to see at night candles must be made for light.  To eat, a garden must be planted. Students will find that as they twist, turn, and decorate their corn husk dolls toys were simple and rarely elaborate or plentiful. Students toil over a washboard and wringer to clean clothes, probably wondering how long it would take to wash the closet full of clothing at home by hand instead of pushing a button.

McFarland Living History Ranch is the living, breathing story of the people and events that preceded the world we live in today.  Students will be immersed in an unforgettable time and take home stories that will inspire.  Contact us today about scheduling your class trip to McFarland Living History Ranch.
